Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026
Varia Jigsaw ("the game") is operated by Variaplay LLP. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to both the web version (variaplay.com/puzzle) and the iOS app distributed through the App Store.
Accounts and authentication
You can play as a guest (anonymous) without providing any personal information. If you choose to sign in to sync your progress across devices, we collect:
- Sign in with Apple: the email address Apple shares with us. If you choose "Hide My Email," Apple gives us a relay address (random@privaterelay.appleid.com) that forwards to your real address; we never see the original.
- Google Sign-In: your Google email address, display name, and profile photo (provided by Google during the OAuth flow).
- Email Link Sign-In: the email address you enter to receive a magic sign-in link.
We use this information solely to identify your account and enable cross-device sync. We do not sell, share, or use your email for marketing.
Game data stored in the cloud
When you sign in, the following game data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) under your account:
- Gold balance, transaction history, and earned puzzles
- Inventory of items (hints, power-ups)
- Journey/collection progress and puzzle completion records
- Daily reward streak and claim history
- Daily puzzle times and leaderboard entries
- Achievement progress
- Settings preferences (theme, font, music)
- In-progress puzzle saves
This data is stored on Google Cloud servers. Firebase's data handling is governed by Google's privacy practices.
Local storage
The game also stores data in your browser's localStorage as a local cache and for settings that don't sync (e.g., analytics consent). This data stays on your device.
Analytics
If you accept analytics, we collect anonymous usage data through PostHog:
- Session duration and visit frequency
- Puzzles started, completed, and abandoned
- Feature usage (hints, items, shop purchases)
- Browser type, OS, and screen size
Analytics data is aggregated and does not include your name, email, or account details. PostHog sets a first-party cookie to distinguish unique visitors. No third-party analytics cookies are used.
Advertising
The game shows interstitial and rewarded video ads. Advertising is delivered by Google AdMob on iOS and Google AdSense on the web — both Google services, with similar but platform-specific data handling.
On iOS (App Store version)
AdMob serves ads inside the app and may collect:
- Your IP address and approximate (city-level) location derived from it
- Device model, iOS version, language, and screen size
- Ad interaction events (impressions, clicks, video completion)
- The Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) only if you grant permission via the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, AdMob serves only non-personalized ads and does not link ad activity to your IDFA.
Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt appears the first time you tap a placement that uses an ad. You can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Varia Jigsaw → Allow Tracking.
On the web (variaplay.com)
AdSense uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads, including ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. The data Google may use includes:
- Cookies and similar identifiers (including the “DSID” cookie used for non-personalized ads)
- Your IP address and approximate location
- Device and browser information (type, language, screen size)
- Pages you visit on this site, and broadly the kinds of sites you visit elsewhere when ads are personalized
Both platforms
For details on what Google collects and how it uses that data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's advertising privacy policy.
Your choices. You can:
- On iOS: change the App Tracking Transparency permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or in Settings → Varia Jigsaw → Allow Tracking
- Manage your ad personalization preferences at Google's My Ad Center
- On the web: opt out of personalized advertising from many ad networks at the Digital Advertising Alliance or, in the EU, Your Online Choices; or block third-party cookies in your browser
If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our advertising partners will request your consent before using cookies or trackers for personalized advertising, in line with the EU GDPR and ePrivacy rules. You can change or withdraw consent at any time using the controls above.
We do not share your account-level data (email, alias, or game progress) with advertisers. Ad targeting is handled entirely by Google's systems based on cookie/IDFA-level signals; we do not pass through user IDs or personally identifying information to ad networks.
Uploaded images, camera, and photo library (iOS)
You may upload your own images to create custom puzzles. The iOS app may request permission to access your camera and photo library when you tap "Take Photo" or "Choose Image" — these permissions are only used to source the picture you select. We do not browse or scan your photo library; iOS hands us only the single image you pick.
- Playing as a guest (web): uploaded images are processed entirely in your browser and never sent to any server. They're stored only in your browser's local storage.
- Signed in (web or iOS): uploaded images are stored in your private folder on Google Firebase Storage so your personal gallery syncs across devices. Access is restricted to your account — Firebase Storage rules ensure no other user can read your uploads. We do not inspect, share, or use your images for any purpose other than serving them back to you inside the game.
You can delete any uploaded image from the in-game gallery at any time, which removes it from Firebase Storage.
Third-party services
For transparency, here are all the third-party services the game uses, and what each receives:
- Google Firebase Authentication: email address, display name, and avatar URL when you sign in. Privacy.
- Google Cloud Firestore: stores your account-keyed game data (gold, items, progress, leaderboard scores).
- Google Cloud Storage / Firebase Storage: stores uploaded gallery images, scoped to your account.
- Google AdMob (iOS): ad serving. May receive IDFA (only with ATT consent), IP, device model, ad-engagement events. Privacy.
- Google AdSense (web): ad serving. May receive IP, browser/device info, advertising cookies. Privacy.
- Apple Sign In (iOS & web): when you choose Apple as your sign-in method, Apple shares the email address you authorize (or a private relay alias). Privacy.
- PostHog: anonymous product analytics, only if you accept the in-app prompt. Receives event metadata (no name, no email). Privacy.
Your choices
- Play without signing in: No email or identity data is collected. Game progress stays local to your device.
- Decline analytics: No usage data is collected. Toggle analytics on or off anytime in Settings.
- Decline ad tracking (iOS): Decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt and AdMob will only serve non-personalized ads. Change anytime in iOS Settings.
- Sign out: You can sign out from Settings at any time. Your cloud data remains stored but is not accessible until you sign back in.
- Delete your account and data: Tap Settings → Delete account in the app. This permanently removes your account, gold balance, item inventory, gallery uploads, daily-leaderboard entries, and all journey progress from our servers. You can also email support@variaplay.com if you'd prefer we handle the deletion for you.
- Clear local data: Clear your browser's site data (web) or delete the app (iOS) to remove all on-device game data.
Children
The game is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. AdMob and AdSense are configured to respect their respective child-directed treatment settings; we do not target ads based on age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
